Some time back in 2006, I decided to make the Book of Mormon available on my web site. I Googled for it, and I found the complete original text at Project Gutenberg. I converted this plain text to web pages using standard Unix utilites (split, sed, etc.) and manually "massaged" the results a bit (some of the books and/or chapters were not delimited consistently). Then I generated all of the book directories and chapter pages with a little Bash script I wrote for the purpose. The pages ended up containing slightly broken HTML code (though they displayed correctly in browsers) due to the way I wrote the Bash and sed scripts.
On 2006-11-06, I made the pages Valid XHTML 1.0 Strict. I simply had to write a few "ed" scripts and run them on all of the chapter files to fix them. This cleaned up the broken HTML code and added code which is required by XHTML. Using "ed" was much easier and faster than editing each file by hand (or even using a text editor :P ).
In some places I have made a few minor changes which I feel should be made. All of these changes are only in punctuation or typography; I have not changed any of the text's grammar (regardless of how awkward it can be). Also, all changes are clearly marked with the following styles:
